dance like the whole world is watching

21 year old anthropology student with a minor in dance. This blog is a mix of posts about my life, books, tv shows, movies, song lyrics, quotes, dancing, anthropological ramblings, and the occasional political statement. Never be afraid to send me a message (:

Do not try to be pretty. You weren’t meant to be pretty; you were meant to burn down the earth and graffiti the sky. Don’t let anyone ever simplify you to just “pretty.”

do not let anyone make you feel like shit for putting yourself first

you are the only person that is guaranteed to be with you throughout your whole life so you might as well have a loving relationship with yourself

We are not killjoys or prudes who think that there should be no sexual information and media for young people. But are teenage boys and young men best prepared for fulfilling love and sex when they normalise views about women that are disturbingly close to those mirrored in the language of sexual offenders?" -Dr. Peter Hegarty

This is one of the best arguments for why we still need feminism in the Western world.  The messages in these magazines are socially accepted and contribute to a pervasive climate of objectification and violence against women.

I don’t usually link to sites like Jezebel as great sources of information.  Here is an article with some better sources and links to the actual study.
